Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation uses implant materials or fat to resculpt or increase your breast size following events like significant weight loss, pregnancy or other body changes. Augmentation will improve the balance of your figure, increase the fullness and projection of your breasts and ultimately improve your self-confidence. It remains one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the United States.

If you are unhappy with the size or shape of your breasts, augmentation surgery is a choice to consider.

Breast augmentation uses implant materials or fat to resculpt or increase your breast size following events like significant weight loss, pregnancy or other body changes.

Note that augmentation will not correct drooping breasts; instead, a sagging bustline can be fixed by a breast lift surgery. A breast lift surgery may also be done at the same time as an augmentation. Either Dr. Skalicky or Dr. Shafran will assist you in making the decision to pursue breast augmentation, a breast lift or both.
The results will be visible immediately. Over time, the swelling will subside and the incision lines will fade. It is important to remember that breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. Both doctors take great pride in being as precise as possible with incisions, which will lead to less scarring.
There is no need to worry about downtime following your surgery. Immediately after your procedure you will be closely monitored, and wrapped in gauze dressings, a support bra or other compression garments, which will minimize swelling and help boost the breasts’ healing process. The procedure takes a little over an hour and you will be home shortly thereafter. Swelling and soreness is common post-surgery for one to two weeks. Most physical activity and exercise should be put on hold for 24 to 48 hours. Consult with Dr. Skalicky or Dr. Shafran first if you have any questions about changes to your daily routine following surgery.

Prepping for your surgery involves minimal work. You may be asked to do any of the following:

  • Get a blood test
  • Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, which can lead to an increase in blood loss
  • No matter your age or body type, breast surgery can help you to feel not only better about yourself, but also to live a more adventurous life.
